5 Skincare Tips To Help You Get That Perfect Summer Glow
When summertime comes around, it’s every girl’s dream to have radiant, glowing, and healthy skin. A summer skincare routine is just what you need to ensure that your skincare goals are met. Follow these hacks for keeping your skin fresh, soft, and smooth to the surface this season. Whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, these dermatologist-approved tips will transcend across all skin types.
1. Switch Up Your Face Wash
Facial cleansing is the most important and basic step of every seasonal skincare routine–but it’s extremely crucial in the summer when the climate is hot and humid.
Cleanse your face at least twice a day. Your skin doesn’t really need a full wash in the mornings–but rather, just a simple rinse with a splash of water. Excess oil, sweat, dirt, and debris accumulates on your skin throughout the day. Whenever you wear makeup, you’ll want to get that off before you go to bed as well. That’s why deep cleaning is essential during your PM skin routine, to remove all that buildup. It’s especially necessary if you have oily skin, since your pores are easily clogged.
You’ll also want to change your face wash according to the time of year. For oily skin, it’s best to use an oil cleanser or a lightweight, foaming cleanser that will deeply clean your pores. If you do use a foaming cleaner, make sure to invest in one that won’t strip the skin of its natural moisture. Have dry skin? Use a non-foaming cleanser for your skin type in the summer months. With combination skin, a non-soapy face wash will do just fine. Clean ingredients are always best–regardless of which skin products you use.
2. Get All of the Sun Protection You Can Get
Wear sunscreen to protect your face, hands, legs, and other exposed parts of your body from direct sunlight. Sunscreen helps to reduce inflammation in the skin that’s caused by heat. Exposure to the sun and its UV light can lead to a number of skin-related issues, including premature aging, sunburn, and skin cancer.
Try finding a sunscreen that is reef safe and contains clean ingredients. Sunscreen products with non-nano zinc oxides and organic moisturizing oils are ideal. It is best that you apply sunscreen at least two times a day on all the exposed body parts. You can even take things a step further by wearing sun-protective clothing (or hats) that provide extra facial coverage. Pick a sunscreen or sunblock with an SPF 30 or higher. Skin tip: apply our Superfood Beauty Oil to a sunburn...your skin will thank you!
3. Lighten Up the Moisturizer
If you think that it’s unnecessary to use a moisturizer in the summer, think again. You’ll definitely need the extra moisture–just not as much as you normally would in drier climates. That’s why it’s recommended that you ditch any type of heavy moisturizer for a lighter one this season. Our Superfood Beauty Oil both hydrates and nourishes the skin without clogging your pores. While moisture-packed, its lightweight formula will literally have your face feeling fresh and airy.
4. Exfoliate
Exfoliate the skin regularly to remove any dead skin cells your skin may accumulate this time of year. There are tons of good scrubs and exfoliators out there for all skin types. As a general rule of thumb: Be careful not to over-exfoliate, as this can also cause unwanted redness and rashes.
5. Drink Plenty of Water
We had to save the best for last! Of course–don’t forget to drink lots and lots of water this summer. Stay hydrated, as it helps to naturally flush toxins from the body that can really do a number on your skin. You can never have enough!
